The day so many of us had been waiting for finally came yesterday. The Hobbit began filming. Even more fun was that Peter Jackson documented the occasion and shared it with the fans! He did this by creating a facebook fan page. One can only assume that there will be even more photos and fun information posted there as the production moves forward.

When you think of the story of The Hobbit there are several things that jump to mind. Obviously Bilbo, Gandalf, and the dwarfs immediately jump to mind. Think a little bit more and most likely the dragon Smaug and the Lonely Mountain will come to mind. As of now, everything but the last two has been announced. While we know a majority of the cast for The Hobbit, we do not know who will be voicing Smaug and we do not know much about the Lonely Mountain…until now.

I’ve been attempting to keep you all updated with what is going on with the filming for The Hobbit. A recent development today is that Peter Jackson has had a bit of a health scare. He was rushed to the hospital last night because of stomach pains. Once there he had surgery for a perforated ulcer.

Yes, you read the headline right. Cate Blanchett and Orlando Bloom are reportedly going to be in The Hobbit. What they will be doing I’m not entirely sure as neither of their characters are in the book. However, seeing as the book is being split into two movies, maybe they will show up in the second movie to act as sort of a bridge between the two? I’m not entirely sure.
