Sleeping Beauty Castle

There are very few things more iconic than Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland. Because it is so iconic, it is photographed a LOT and there are always people around it. So… when you can get a chance to take a picture of this beautiful landmark with nobody in it… you take the opportunity! I was granted such an opportunity last June as I was making my way to the opening of Star Tours as part of the Soundsational Summer Press event. It was much earlier in the morning than I [Read More]

C-3P0 To Pilot a Starspeeder 1000?

Today on the Disney Parks Blog a new secret was unveiled. This is a secret that Anthony Daniels apparently has been bursting to tell! Here is what the Disney Parks Blog had to say:
It was great to read your comments about the pilots of Star Tours on my last post. Some people really want to see Rex again in the new show. Others are excited about the introduction of the new character “Ace.” And then there [Read More]

DAPs Magic’s Geeks Corner, the Online Show

It is done. Our first episode of Geeks Corner, the online show, is now online for your enjoyment! At least, we hope you will enjoy it! I’m joined by my friend Johnny 5 as we talk about random things that have been showing up on Geeks Corner or other geeky places that we have been keeping our eyes on. We’ll include a bit of commentary and maybe even a bit of comedy…think Fozzy Bear… and hopefully you enjoy this! We’ll also have special guests joining us on the porch (yes, [Read More]

We’ve Got Droids

A lot was going on at the Disneyland Resort this weekend, most involved D23 and the Destination D event. One of the things that definitely got my attention was the unveiling of some details about Star Tours. For years it had been rumored that Star Tours was going to be updated and it seems like everyone had ideas for what they’d like to see on an updated Star Tours. Now after years of dreaming, speculating, and wondering, we are close to seeing what the people who have power came up [Read More]

Michael Giacchino on Star Trek

Michael Giacchino wrote the music for last year’s Star Trek re-imagined prequel. While nothing is set in stone about the sequel to the prequel, there is much speculation that when it is made this will be the guy creating the music. Recently, TrekMovie had an interview with Giacchino about music from the last movie along with music from the next. The video of the interview is about 40 minutes long so here are some of the highlights:
Giacchino wrote music for the deleted Klingon scenes, but “would not want anyone to [Read More]

Scoring Star Tours (I & II)

You may or may not realize this but John Williams wasn’t the guy who came in and arranged the music for Star Tours. A guy named Richard Bellis was actually the guy who pulled together the music and arranged it for the original Star Tours. There is an amazing interview with Bellis over at the Endor Express if you want to read more about him and some of his history working musically in the Disney Theme Parks. Part of the interview focuses on his work on Star Tours and Indiana [Read More]

New Star Tours Video

Over at the Disney Parks Blog they have posted a new video for the return of Star Tours. It is formatted as a travel advertisement for Star Tours. It actually is rather clever and well done. It reminds me much of the video that used to be played in the entrance queue for Star Tours before it was closed. According to the Disney Parks Blog, this video will be showed in place of the old one in the queue. This video was shown at Star Wars Celebration V.  The Disney [Read More]

What do YOU miss from the Disneyland of the past?

A friend recently posted this article on his facebook and I definitely think it is worth sharing. In it, the author writes about the ten things he misses the most about Disneyland in the past. It really got me thinking, what things do I miss from the past? What things do YOU miss from the Disneyland of the past? While Disneyland will never be finished and will always be growing and evolving, it also has some wonderful memories and a beautiful history. It is on these memories and rich heritage [Read More]

The First Last Flight to Endor

Last night Rex piloted his first last flight to Endor aboard his StarSpeeder 3000 with his navigator R2D2. It would be nice to say that the trip was free from incident, but anyone who has flown on Star Tours before knows this just wouldn’t be true. Since 1987, Star Wars fans have been boarding a StarSpeeder 3000 piloted by Rex (voiced by Paul Reubens) for that same flight to Endor. Of course things always seemed to go wrong from the moment the mission began as Rex couldn’t even seem to [Read More]
