The Return of Bond

It seems like just yesterday that the future of the James Bond franchise was in doubt. Take a quick look on the internet now and that seems all like just a forgotten bad dream. The 23rd James Bond movie is moving forward a full steam. Here are a few things that are already known about the movie:
1. Sam Mendes will be directing.
2. Russell Beale could very well end up being the villain. He is a good friend of Sam Mendes and would love to be a “baddie” as he put [Read More]

Bond is Back… Sorta

James Bond is on the road to return. His return could be sooner than once expected. Remember, the last time I had given an update on the upcoming James Bond movie things were rather dire. So dire that the franchise was put on hiatus. This was all due to MGM’s financial woes. Thankfully, those things seem to be clearing up and there is definitely hope on the horizon!
MGM has entered bankruptcy and is expected to come out of it very quickly. When it does it will be run by the [Read More]

The Return of Goldeneye 007

Do you remember the days of the N64 gaming system? If you do, you probably remember playing Goldeneye 007. I have fond memories of playing it with my buddies. I remember setting traps for them with remote control mines, or maybe the proximity mines, in that one basement level and then waiting to watch my friends walk into their demise. The sniper rifle or one of the automatics were always a lot of fun too. As far as I’m concerned, it was one of the best multi-player games to ever be released. It offered [Read More]

Hope for the Hobbit?

Is there a little bit of hope for The Hobbit movies? Let’s hope so. It may come in the form of a spyglass. Well, not exactly. However, if things continue to progress as they are now, Spyglass Entertainment co-heads Gary Barber and Roger Birnbaum could soon be running the venerable and ailing Metro-Golden-Mayer (MGM) Inc in the not so distant future. In a plan that is currently being worked out, MGM would restructure it’s $4 billion in debt through the bankruptcy process. As part of the deal being worked out, [Read More]

What Killed James Bond? He’s Dead???

As I was reading through some of the blogs I regularly follow this morning I found this article on the death of the James Bond franchise. While I’m not entirely convinced that the franchise is really dead, I do recognize it is in dire straights. It is such a tragedy to see one of the great movie studios of all time struggling like this. It currently is also involved in two franchises that I really am fond of! At least, I think I’ll be found of the second. The first [Read More]

A Little Hope for MGM? A little Hobbit News.

There are talks of a potential acquisition of MGM by Lions Gate Entertainment Corp. This is definitely not a done deal however as Lions Gate has its own issues. The main one being majority stock holder Carl Ichan. As recently as March, Ichan opposed Lions Gate purchasing film libraries…like MGM. He also has clearly not been overly happy with where Lions Gate has been going as he has threatened a proxy fight to elect his own board of directors for Lions Gate. This has been put temporarily on hold until [Read More]

Bond, James Bond

Don’t expect to hear “Bond, James Bond” anytime soon. Due to the financial crisis at MGM, the James Bond franchise has been suspended indefinitely! As of April, people associated with the franchise were told that things were just being postponed. Now… it has been completely axed. Who knows when we will see another James Bond flick. Some websites are speculating that it will be years… at best! This is quite disappointing for us James Bond fans. It is also scary for The Hobbit fans as it really casts in doubt [Read More]

There has been a lot of speculation about the future of MGM. Recently Spyglass Entertainment and Lions Gate have both emerged as contenders to run the beleaguered studio.  How either company would run MGM is still very much up in the air. What is known is that MGM has $4 billion worth of debt that they need to figure out. They also have two of my favorite franchises in their coffers: The Hobbit (I’m guessing it’ll be a favorite), and James Bond.
The Wall Street Journal ran an article on the [Read More]

The Hobbit News, Kind of

As I have mentioned before, The Hobbit is in a holding pattern. Guillermo Del Toro has left the project because of the budget uncertainties brought upon it by the financial situation at MGM. Since then, a couple of rumors of potential directors have surfaced but nothing concrete has emerged. The most recent rumors was that David Yates (of Harry Potter fame) was the new director of The Hobbit but this has been flat out denied. Peter Jackson has said that if no other suitable director can be found, he’ll do [Read More]
